LOPEZ ECHS CHOIR

Jason Whitney, Head Director

 

Mr. Whitney is a graduate of the University of Texas - Brownsville where he studied under Dianne Brumley. While at UTB he took voice lessons from Dr. Daniel Hunter-Holly and performed with the UTB Master Chorale and Bravo Opera Company. During his time in the Bravo Opera Company, Jason performed such roles as Figaro in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Papageno in Mozart's Die Zauberflote, and the Father in the annual outreach production of Hansel and Gretel. Jason was also a part of the UTB Master Chorale during their 2011 TMEA Collegiate Honor's performance at the 2011 Texas Music Educators Association Convention. He was also the very first recipient of the Dianne Brumley Endowment for Choral Music Excellence in 2013. Jason started his teaching career at Lopez ECHS as the assistant choir director in 2014 and later became the head director in 2015. He has been teaching for 4 years and plans to stay at Lopez for many, many more. In the spring of 2018, under his direction, the Lopez Men's Chorus auditioned and were selected as 1 of 20 groups to perform at the 2019 Junior Chorus Invitational. In January of 2019 they will perform at the Grand Ole Opry during the Barbershop Harmony Society's Midwinter Convention.
