On Friday, January 25, 2019 the Lopez Early College High School Barbershop Chorus UPBEAT! performed in the Barbershop Harmony Society's Next Generation Junior Chorus Invitational at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. The 16 students that comprise UPBEAT! competed in the Plateau A Division against other invited choruses from across the nation. They were judged in the categories of Music, Singing, and Performance. Lopez walked away from the competition with the honor of Plateau A Champions and a rating of "Outstanding" from a panel of nine judges. They represented their school with pride and left Nashville with many people talking about Brownsville.
